Helping someone you care for
Many people reach out on behalf of a parent, spouse, or another adult. Here is how it works, what helps most, and where the limits are.
What Rosecare can and cannot do for a family member
Justina can evaluate mood, behavior and thinking changes in an older adult with their medications and medical conditions in view, and can include you in the plan when the patient agrees. She cannot share information about an adult patient without that patient's permission, except where the law provides otherwise (for example, a healthcare power of attorney or guardianship). Bring any such documents to the first visit.
Preparing on someone's behalf
The most useful things you can bring are a complete medication list, the names of other providers, and a short written timeline: what changed, when, and what seems to make it better or worse. Notice patterns — time of day, after a medication change, after an illness or hospital stay.
During the visit
With the patient's permission you can attend, add what you have observed, and ask questions. Try to let the patient answer first; the evaluation is about their experience as well as yours. If there is something you would rather say privately, mention it when scheduling so it can be arranged appropriately.
Routine questions vs. urgent concerns
Routine matters — refills, scheduling, a question about a medication — go through the patient portal for the platform you booked with, or the office phone during business hours. A sudden change in confusion, a fall, new chest pain or breathing trouble, or a medication mix-up with symptoms is a medical emergency: call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. If someone is in danger of harming themselves or others, call 911 or call or text 988.
Looking after yourself
Caregiving is demanding. Respite, support groups and your own primary care matter. The Family Caregiver Alliance and the Alzheimer's Association helpline (available around the clock) are reliable starting points for practical support.
